The Accommodations

Hotels:

All lodging will be in the nicest hotels in the Lake Atitlan area.  The hotels are very clean and comfortable. Most would be considered boutique hotels or bed and breakfast type hotels, as there are no hotel chains are located in the area. We make sure you are comfortable and taken care of. All rooms have hot water, private bathrooms, and comfortable beds.  We are definitely not “roughing it.”  Hotel rooms are based on double occupancy.  If you come alone, you will share a room with another participant of the same sex.  If you need a single room, a $500 fee will be added to your adventure price to cover the additional costs.

Below are links and photos of many of the hotels we will be enjoying.

Saturday: Posada de Don Rodrigo in Antigua

Sunday: Hotel Regis in Panajachel

Monday: La Casa del Mundo in Jaibalito, called “Guatemala’s most magical hotel” by Lonely Planet Guide

Tuesday: Posada Schumann in San Marcos

Wednesday: Stay in San Pedro or San Juan

Thursday & Friday: Posada de Don Rodrigo in Panajachel

Hotels may change due to availability and size of groups, but any changes will be in equally nice hotels.

Food:

Each day we will have breakfast and dinner together at the hotel or at a local restaurant.  Usually, lunch will be packed ahead of time and you will be responsible for carrying it in your pack.  We will eat lunch on the trail or in a village along the way.  Your lunch will also contain various snacks to eat on the trail.

Restaurant menus will have a good variety, including meats, pastas, sandwiches, soups, and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as vegetarian dishes.  You can find foods that will be familiar and you can enjoy some delicious Guatemalan options.  Guatemalan food is not spicy, and often includes black beans, rice, and fresh, handmade corn tortillas.  All meals are prepared in restaurants that follow strict health guidelines.  Water is purified and fruits and vegetables are thoroughly disinfected.  We want to keep you happy and healthy, so you can concentrate on enjoying the trail runs.
